Who you are actually dealing with
There are two of us and we are both roofers. Not a manager and a roofer, not a salesman and a subcontractor. The person who comes out to look at your roof is the person who will be up there doing the work. That sounds like a small thing and it changes everything about how a quote goes. We are not passing a job to a team we have never met, and we are not being paid on what we sell you. It is the main reason we can look at a roof and tell you honestly that it does not need replacing, because there is nobody above us who would rather we had said otherwise. We have been roofing since we left school. Southern Counties Roofworks itself is new, and we would rather say that plainly than dress it up. What we are not new at is the work.

Why we tell people their roof is fine
Most of the work we get comes from people who have already been let down. Roofs repaired three and four times that still leak. Jobs quoted as a full replacement when a day of work would have fixed it. One customer had put up with a leak for more than ten years before she called us, and when we went back later she told us the house was warmer and the damp had gone. So the thing we say most often on a first visit is that the job is smaller than somebody has told you it is. We repaired a lead flashing in Dorchester in about four hours on a roof that had been quoted for replacement. That is a difference of thousands of pounds, and the only way the customer could have known was to get somebody else up there. We are not pretending that is charity. A customer who gets told the truth once tends to come back, and tells other people. But it does mean the first conversation is about what the roof actually needs rather than what we would like to sell. If the job needs doing, then it needs doing, and we will say that just as plainly.

You see what we see
Photographs from roof level of whatever we found. You cannot inspect your own roof, so you should not have to take anyone's word for its condition.
British Standard materials
Fitted to manufacturer specification so the finished job complies with building regulations. Proctor Air breathable felt on replacements, and dry ridge rather than sand and cement.
Scaffold before anything else
Erected first on every strip. Nobody works off a ladder taking a roof apart, and that is not negotiable regardless of what it does to the price.
A 15 to 20 year guarantee
On every roof we install. If something goes wrong inside that period you call us and we come back out.
The site left clean
Waste taken away and the ground swept before we go. You should not be finding old nails in the lawn next spring.
Working hours, and we say so
We do emergency leak repairs and make-safe work during the working day. We do not run a night or weekend call-out service, and we would rather tell you that upfront.

Questions about us
How long have you been roofing?
Both of us have been on the tools since we left school. The limited company is newer than that, and we would rather be straight about the difference than let one imply the other.
Are you insured?
Yes, we are fully insured, and we hold CSCS cards. We do not hold NFRC, CompetentRoofer or TrustMark membership and we are not going to imply otherwise. If a firm shows you a badge, it is worth asking what it actually covers.
Do you do commercial roofing?
We can, but it is not what we are building this business around. Our work is domestic roofing on houses, that is where we are strongest, and it is what the whole of this site is about. If you have a commercial building, call us and we will tell you honestly whether we are the right firm for it.
Do you work on listed buildings?
No. Listed and heritage roofing is a different trade with its own consents and its own specialists, and doing it badly damages a building that cannot be replaced. If your property is listed we will tell you on the first visit and point you at somebody who does that work properly.
Who will actually turn up?
The two of us. We do not subcontract the work out, which is why the person who quotes your roof is the person who does it and why we can tell you honestly what we find.
Why should I use a new company?
It is a fair question. What you get from a firm at our stage is that every job matters, both owners are on it, and there is nobody between you and the people doing the work. What you do not get is a long list of past customers, and we are not going to invent one.
Where do you work?
Bournemouth, Poole, Christchurch, Ferndown and Wimborne, and the areas around them. We are based in Bournemouth, so most of our work is within a short run of it.
